San Juan, Puerto Rico – November 27, 2024 – T-Mobile Puerto Rico launched its Giving Tuesday celebrations with a meaningful community initiative, highlighting the company’s ongoing commitment to giving back to local communities. As a prelude to its Christmas initiatives, T-Mobile Puerto Rico organized a volunteer event with employees at the Puerto Rico Food Bank, an organization dedicated to eradicating hunger with education and hope. During this event, T-Mobile® Puerto Rico and T-Mobile® Foundation presented donations totaling $100,000 to the Food Bank of Puerto Rico and other local impact organizations such as the Extra Bases Foundation, La Mákina Foundation and Pediatric Hospital Foundation.
T-Mobile Puerto Rico's participation in this volunteer event underscores the company's dedication to being a positive force for good. "Helping others has always been part of who we are", said Jorge Martel, vice president and general manager of T-Mobile Puerto Rico. "With our team of employee volunteers, we are excited to kick off our season of giving by directly supporting the communities that need it most."
Among the prominent attendees was former Major League Baseball player Carlos Delgado, founder of the Extra Bases Foundation, who joined the event to show his support. Delgado's presence underscored the shared commitment between T-Mobile Puerto Rico and Extra Bases Foundation to positively impact communities in need. "Seeing the strength of collaboration and the power of helping our communities is incredibly inspiring", said Delgado. "We are proud to, once again as we have for over 15 years, join T-Mobile® in efforts of this type, especially during this season of giving and gifting".
As part of the company-wide food drive, T-Mobile Puerto Rico employees actively contributed their time and energy to the Puerto Rico Food Bank by packing and organizing food. This holiday season, food insecurity is an even more critical issue, and food pantries like the Puerto Rico Food Bank play a vital role in helping to ease the burden for many Puerto Rican families and individuals.
In addition to supporting the Puerto Rico Food Bank, T-Mobile® presented donations to three other organizations:
• Extra Bases Foundation, which supports initiatives that promote social welfare through sports and education.
• La Mákina Foundation, founded by Major League Baseball player José Berríos, the organization provides resources and support to young people seeking careers in the creative arts. T-Mobile Puerto Rico proudly announced its sponsorship of La Mákina Gala & Celebrity Softball Event Kickoff, an annual event to be held this coming December 14th at the Roberto Clemente Walker Stadium, featuring a celebrity softball game and home run derby that raises funds to support its initiatives.
• Fundación Hospital Pediátrico, the only supra tertiary hospital in Puerto Rico that treats the most complicated cases, and is the teaching hospital of the University of Puerto Rico that trains our future physicians.
This latest initiative adds to T-Mobile® Puerto Rico's commitment to close the digital divide and build connections that benefit everyone. Through its initiatives such as Project 10Million, T-Mobile has brought connectivity to more than 4,000 Puerto Rican homes since its launch in 2020. In addition, T-Mobile® partnered with Engine-4 to establish the first 5G & NV-IoT Open Innovation LAB, Even More® positioning Puerto Rico as a technology and innovation hub, helping to foster a more competitive and productive local economy.
In addition to volunteering and donations, T-Mobile® announced a contribution to its employee giving program by adding a $25 donation to each employee's Magenta Match donation account to donate to the nonprofit of their choice. This increase empowers employees to make an even greater impact on the causes they love during the giving season and throughout the year, further demonstrating T-Mobile®’s commitment to driving positive change on the Island and beyond.
As T-Mobile Puerto Rico continues its mission of giving and giving back, this Giving Season initiative reflects the company's commitment to encouraging employee engagement, supporting local communities and driving positive social impact on the island.
